Made a mistake and posted message on Weigand board. Probably should be listed under Fejes. Shishlivtsi is the place that the Medve family was from. Fejes was my mother's maiden name. Medve was her mother's maiden name.

My grandmother's family came from Sislocz, Ung Megye. I was wondering if their name as it was spelled Medve can be expected in the records or should I expect some other spelling. Sislocz is now Shishlivtsi in the Ukraine. Also, what would the Ukranian spelling be? Can I expect to see it on a map?

If the records are in Cyrillic alphabet than yes, the surname will be "looking" different than MEDVE.
Search with www.google.com for a website on Cyrillic alphabet.
The old 1910 Hungarian megye map is at:

Locate a town of Ungvar (now) Uzghorod, go South-West a bit and there it is Sislocz. You can also use :

Might be good to also post on Ukraine's board, if you have not.
Nice amount of MEDVEs came thru Ellis Island from Sislocz. Use a One step www.stevemorse.org and there 89 people from Sislocz.
